The Case Studies on this page represent a small sampling of our most well known clients, and are from work we've performed spanning decades. We are unable to present Case Studies for the majority of our Security and Authentication clients due to IP protection, though a small sampling can be viewed here. Rest assured that our list of equally reputable clients in Security and Authentication is far larger than those. We've done work for promotion, display and advertising, and we do have permission to send samples of many custom security holograms we've produced. We are happy to do so upon request.
In 1994, the market dominating Burton Snowboards Company realized that they had a major problem with ‘gray market’. They had strict guidelines in place for all products to go through their Japanese division. Due to a combination of high import tariffs and market structure (lower cost boards available in the USA) , a number of enterprising US agents began to circumvent the supply chain.
Burton realized that they needed to differentiate the Japanese boards (which were in all respects the same as the American product) to be able to ‘pull’ product from shelves in Japan or close distribution points if non-Japanese product was found.
Burton contracted AuthentiBrand Inc. to produce one of the world’s first commercial computer generated holograms and hand applied labels one to each of over 40,000 boards. The hologram, coupled with active and diligent monitoring of the Japanese distributorships, virtually eliminated the problem within one season!
The initial image created was an 11 level 2D3D hologram, one of the world’s first mass production fully computer generated images. The program met with great success and in succeeding years, Burton continued the contract from AuthentiBrand Inc. for the creation of new and unique holograms for their Japanese boards. In order to stay ahead of the possible counterfeiters, and moreover to continue the ‘cool factor’, AuthentiBrand Inc. pushed the state of the art for origination techniques, creating truly deep image pseudo true color embossed holograms with many special effects including ‘lens readable covert imagery’.
By the 3rd year, the hologram became synonymous with quality and innovation, and Burton Japan ordered large versions of the images to be used on the doors and windows of all authorized Burton Japan distributors. In the late 1990s as Dupont’s hologram division (then Krystal Holographics International) become truly commercially viable, AuthentiBrand Inc. shifted the Burton images from embossed to photopolymer. Each year the image was changed as well as the shape, sometimes opaque and sometimes clear.
Due to the successes in Japan, Burton US began toying with the product, using small photopolymer holograms on bindings and promotional products. The product really hit well in the market and in the year 2000 work began on embedding a hologram into the board. After more than 18 months of trials testing scores of product variants, Burton decided they were ready and launched the first ever 4” round photopolymer hologram embedded into a snowboard!
Through a monumental effort of the Burton production departments, JDK Design team, AuthentiBrand Inc., and Dupont’s Salt Lake lab, the cream of the crop 2003 Burton Custom Board is a powerful product on sale now in stores across the USA!
When Price-Waterhouse-Cooper (PWC) needed a truly innovative cutting edge award, they turned to AuthentiBrand Inc. The hologram image we created for them is a complex combination of a true three-dimensional model and multiple planes of flat graphics combined into a two-channel photopolymer type hologram.
Mounted on a custom built acrylic sculpted bases and self illuminating with a built in light source, this piece was bestowed to 15 project teams worldwide together with cash gifts of up to one-hundred thousand dollars.
In PWC’s words, “One of our core values is innovation – developing creative solutions and then translating them into action. To encourage innovation and extract the maximum advantage from our intellectual assets, we launched our Innovation Awards Program. Nearly 700 nominations from more than 40 countries, representing more than 4,000 people, flooded in to our first awards, demonstrating that the spirit of innovation is everywhere in our firm. These awards stand as proof of our commitment to encouraging and recognizing innovative excellence.”
Seeking to thank their major suppliers in a unique and memorable way, the Product team at Smith and Wesson determined to offer a ‘Quality Supplier Award’ and chose AuthentiBrand Inc. to create a custom hologram plaque for the occasion. In order to make use of the specific firearm rather than a model (as holograms images are a one-to-one ratio with the object from which they are created), a hologram image size of 8" X 10” was necessary. AuthentiBrand Inc. determined that a glass Di-Chromated Gelatin (DCG) style hologram would most accurately represent the gray metallic features
of the pistol.
As DCG is sandwiched between plates of glass for archival longevity, the ample 14” X 20” base of ½” thick black acrylic required the milling of a deep recess to accommodate it. The surface of ¼” clear acrylic was then reverse screened with the ‘window’ showing the hologram as well as the type copy.
Pfizer Pharmaceuticals hired AuthentiBrand team to help generate buzz for the launch of their extremely successful Procardia drug. The hologram part of this project began with a complex 3D model coupled with 2D dimensional zed kinetic effects to give the feel of the time release action of the pill. Once the state of the art hologram was complete, and we presented mock-ups of what was to be the cover of their Seeding Detail kits, they loved it so much that they decided to roll It out to the entire product launch platform. Our specified and/or supplied and oversaw the application to millions of holograms, using leading edge technologies to marry the hologram to the surfaces of Business Card Holders, Direct Mail Cards (in window envelopes), Literature Folders and Promotional Magnets with 2 colors printed in register to the surface. The program was a smashing success!
Requiring a sophisticated pseudo color image to represent the segmentation of various departments within the organization, Federal Express identified AuthentiBrand Inc. as the vendor of choice.
AuthentiBrand Inc. combined a true 3D model, tooled of sterling silver, to dimensionalize the arrow, while contracting, coordinating and overseeing the project from design through hot stamp application to the training manual covers.
AuthentiBrand Inc."s first custom hologram, this image was produced in 1987 for CIBA / Geigy Pharmaceuticals. AuthentiBrand Inc. pioneered the manufacture of mass production hologram magnets for this 100,000+ piece promotion of the drug Slow-K. As previous hologram magnets had only been created in small quantities by hand lamination, an entire new production method needed to be created. We worked closely with Mike Vulcano (now of Holographic Finishing Inc.) to modify existing presses in order to create a roll-on application of hot foil to PVC, then re-register print to the surface and die cut in-line. The finished magnets were then blister packed to direct mail cards for a highly successful campaign.
A division of Ingersoll-Rand, Torrington Company sought a graphic impact element to celebrate the launch of their first interactive catalog on CD Rom. The Torrington Dragon logo was specially modeled to an exquisite form, which is visually intriguing yet corporate and classy. The image was so effective that Torrington decided to use it on a host of other products including literature pocket folders and promotional stickers. The success of this image prompted numerous re-orders over subsequent years, and the package was won a number of design awards. AuthentiBrand Inc.’s team handled this project from design through application.
A combination of 3D Modeling and new uses of Holographic 2D renderings make this image created for Bank Boston one of AuthentiBrand Inc."s "showcase holograms".
Bank Boston used a HoloBrands Holo notepad as a promotional product to capture the attention and excite the imagination of their customers.
When Grey Advertising of New York needed an ultra-fast delivery for a poster for the Broadway production of M. Butterfly, AuthentiBrand Inc. designed and created a registered die cut of a butterfly in muted rainbow film. This very complex shape needed to be removed and applied to posters individually to avoid tearing, and created a subtle yet dynamically eye catching embellishment to announce the new play.

Many firms, large and small alike, utilize stock Holograms on products from HoloBrands for promotions where custom holography is too costly or time consuming.
After creation of a high tech 3D projection system to attract new employment recruits to IBM at trade shows, dimensional media company Holophile Inc. hired AuthentiBrand Inc. to design and create a memorable promotional hand out. Tying the project together with a colorful yet corporate 2D3D hologram, AuthentiBrand Inc. designed and contracted a custom built multi-part key-chain as a memento to potential future staff.
AuthentiBrand’s president was chosen to create a state of the art hologram representing an article in the February 2000 issue. The now defunct Simian laboratory was chosen to image a computer generated full 3D virtual model (created with 200 frames from a double SGI workstation, rendering time alone was close to a week!). The hologram was large and rendered one of the world’s first and finest images molecular biomasses, using a process known as Color Tuning. This also broke new ground since standard physical model holograms do very poorly with liquids and clear materials. The publication met with extraordinary critical review and was an award winner!
Schick wanted a high end cover for an internal pamphlet. Given a lower budget and tighter time line than would be possible for a custom hologram, AuthentiBrand used one of it’s HoloBrands’ pre-existing images holograms and retrofitted the tooling to create a world-class hot foil stamped full face cover – as eye catching as it was unique.

AuthentiBrand Inc. was contracted to produce a custom hologram of the Dupont logo to be imaged on the world class Dupont photopolymer hologram film.
Holograms were created as transparent images with HoloBrands HoloShield packaging as a promotion where recipients apply the hologram to their cell phone screens.
After an initial bid process, US Army chose AuthentiBrand Inc. to produce custom PhotoPolymer holograms (manufactured for AuthentiBrand by DuPont Holographics), and then to go on to design, create and provide a high-end feel leading edge plaque to be given to at a prestigious event honoring achievement for their R&D programs.
We used a proprietary process our president pioneered to “entrap” the hologram between the sheets of ½” and ¼” hand polished lucite, to insure a powerful presentation without issues normally associated with ‘film against surface’ exposure.
The plaques not only were delivered on time and under budget, but were so well received that the client rolled it out to other custom holograms and award uses for projects spanning more than a decade and well thousands of finished pieces!
Seeking to really stand out, Norwalk Company hired AuthentiBrand’s founder to design and create a large impactful hologram for the cover of their company flagship brochure. Having seen lenticular 2-channel images, but desiring the visual excitement and a thin application that could integrate into the cover, they opted for a 2-channel 2D3D custom hologram run on hot stamping film (also known as roll leaf or hot foil). The image of their steam turbine shows the action of the pistons as the image tilts left to right. Here again AuthentiBrand employed their signature Frame Effect technique using silver foil to make the frame appear an extension of the hologram while trapping to the full coverage color process inked surface.
